Painting without a map

I was invited by Gail Sibley, artist, teacher, mentor and blogger known for her uplifting spirit, to contribute as a guest blogger for her online platform,

This special collaboration presented a unique opportunity to dive deep into my art and creative process, focusing on my approach to painting with pastels “without a map.” In this guest blog post, I share candid insights into working intuitively with color and form, exploring how letting go of strict plans can lead to vibrant, dynamic artworks.

I invite you, artists, art enthusiasts, pastel painters, and lovers of creative exploration to read my post, click here: https://www.howtopastel.com/2025/08/cory-goulet-painting-without-a-map/

My Creative Space

Life Redirected

In May of this year, I did it, it was a bit scary (still is) but I have officially left the corporate world. No more worrying about someone else’s bottom line, no more company stress. I am still trying to figure it all out. Do I stick to my same schedule, my body clock still has me up at 4:30am, do I still do this, do I still do that……all in flux. It has been a complete shift of my life thus far, but it feels great. I don’t necessarily like that word “retirement” (I am still all the things I was before except for being an employee of X). Instead, I am simply going to say I have redirected my life; I am following my passions.

One of my art goals in 2024 will be to release a monthly art blog for both artists and collectors. Art tips/techniques for artists (insightful techniques I have learned along the way or new practices to try) and to highlight work in progress. I am one who likes to share knowledge whether you want it or not!

While I have been an artist for many, many years, it has always been a part time gig. It is going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out. SO far, June was super busy, I was fortunate enough to have helped support Diana Sanford’s JAM workshop at the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) Pastel Convention in New Mexico. The workshop was full of creatives, and it was certainly a kick; I, along with the students, learned so much. It was great interacting with all the students too.

July thus far has been cleaning and organizing my studio space. It was mentioned to me, if you do not love it, toss it, so that is what I have been doing for both my unfinished pastel and mix-media works. What is left is getting organized and priced for selling. I am in the process of revamping my website and social media platforms, cleaning up, organized and professional. It seems, I have been going through the whole house like this, it feels good!

Until next time, if you have any questions about my artwork you have seen on my website please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thanks for tuning in, more to come as I redirect this artistic life.
